In the event of failing health, we can act in connection with applications to the Court of Protection for the appointment of a Deputy who is then empowered to deal with the property and the affairs of the Patient and to make certain decisions for that Patient.
In the absence of anyone else we ourselves can act as Deputies to act in the best interests of the Patient and to deal with the Patient’s property and affairs and to make certain decisions for the benefit of the Patient.
Deputies are appointed to watch over and act in the Patient’s interests. It is often the case that family members are concerned over the influence of other members of the family who may have shown a keen interest in the Patient’s assets. This can be even more worrying as the Patient may lack mental capacity and may be led into parting with assets which perhaps they would not have done so if they had full capacity. Thus, in these cases it is vital that an application be made for the appointment of a Deputy.
